Major Projects
Beyond the work that contributions to the Annual Fund make possible, Novalis Ubuntu realizes new and visionary projects through major program support and capital contributions. During the next two years, three current initiatives with especially significant impact and for which funds are needed:
Land Acquisition Project
The land where the building is situated is part of a 25-year lease from the City of Cape Town. Acquiring the land will enable us to secure additional funds needed to fund our other projects as well as ensuring the continuity of our mission and work. The City has kindly offered to sell us the land at only a fraction of its value. In order to fully acquire the land, we are in need of R300,000.
Building Restoration & Expansion Project
The dome-shape building in which the Institute operates was designed by architect Brian Johnson and was built thanks to a grant given by the governments of Germany and Japan in 1996. This humanistic building contains a large assembly hall, four large classrooms, a library, a kitchen, and an administrator’s block, and beautifully landscaped gardens. After nearly 13 years of extensive use, the buiding is in special need of maintenance and repairs and in order to fully restore it to its ideal condition 7 Million Rands are needed. Additional classrooms, practitioner rooms and a dormitory are currently being planned, requiring and estimated additional investment of 10 Million Rands.
