A Well known Landmark in Wynberg/Kenilworth area for its unusual dome shape design, The Novalis Ubuntu Institute is a unique venue. Incorporating a live art/music/cinema venue, conference rooms, bookshop and cafe bar, the Institute is a dynamic and versatile location suitable for a variety of events including conferences, classes, exhibitions, talks, workshops or other educational, musical, spiritual and creative events.

We offer flexibly-priced standard and economy Conference Packages for groups of 15-70 people starting at just R125 per person! (includes Venue Hire with Standard Equipment, coffee/tea with biscuits on arrival, mid-morning tea/coffee break, a delicious lunch and a mid afternoon tea/coffee break.) We also offer professional sound, lighting, projection and presentation facilities and box office support to help ensure your event is a success. We pride ourselves on our friendly and realistic approach to managing your event combined with a wealth of technical and practical expertise.

Previous events hosted at the Novalis Ubuntu Resource Center have included workshops, away-days, breakfast seminars, screenings, television recordings, receptions, book launches, conferences and board meetings. Due to the unique nature of our venue we are open to suggestions for alternative events also.

Spaces available for Hire


Assembly Space

Auditorium/theater – an adaptable space for a maximum of 300 people. This space is ideal for conferences, seminars, music concerts, demonstrations, lectures, and spiritual services. Seating is flexible and can be moved to create a larger stage area. The adjacent rooms can be used as dressing rooms if required. General technical support is included in the price. The theatre is fully accessible for wheelchair and enjoys the day’s natural light. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Prester John Room

A large salmon color space ideal for workshops, meetings, launches, creative sessions and discussion groups, spiritual services or meditations, it has a capacity of 40 for boardroom style, 70 for theatre style seating. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Mars Room

A large white space ideal for workshops, meetings, launches, creative sessions and discussion groups, it has a capacity of 25 for boardroom style, 40 for theater style seating. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Jupiter Room

Similar to the Mars room, this is also a large white space ideal for workshops, meetings, launches, creative sessions and discussion groups, it has a capacity of 25 for boardroom style, 40 for theater style seating. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Art Room

A large salmon color space ideal for workshops, meetings, launches, creative sessions and discussion groups, it has a capacity of 20 for boardroom style, 35 for theatre style seating. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Cafe Geneve

Our Cafe Geneve has is ideal for lunch meetings, book launches and readings, discussion groups, and catered events. It has a capacity of 50, which is expandable. ADSL internet connection, and other audio/visual equipment are available here upon request.

Booking Procedures


1. Please download our Application Form and read the Conditions of Use. Make sure you agree with them.

2. Choose your preferred venue and date for your event. If you are unsure which venue suits your needs, you can come and visit us during our business hours. Please call ahead of time for an appointment if you’re in the area. Rental rates can be found in the Application Form.

3. Telephone during our business hours on (+27 21) 797-1857 to check the availability of your preferred venue and date and to make a tentative booking. This tentative booking is held for five (5) working days.

Please note: It is crucial that you do not send in your Application Form and payment without first making a tentative booking.

4. Post, Email or fax your completed and signed Application Form (all 3 pages) together with your payment or proof of payment within five working days of making your tentative booking. Please ensure that you have received your confirmation letter/email prior to proceeding with any other arrangements.

Please note: Your booking is not confirmed until you have received your confirmation letter/email from us. Some bookings require a site meeting and will only be confirmed pending the outcome of your site meeting. Please ensure that you notify the Novalis Ubuntu Institute of any changes to your plans.

5. A receipt of payment and confirmation letter confirming your booking will be forwarded to you.

6. Please ensure that you have received your confirmation letter/email prior to proceeding with any other arrangements.  If you would like to publish your event to our online calendar for an additional R50 please use the following Event Submission Form.
