For Educators
Our Beautiful Schools Project is designed to encourage individual schools to determine their own development through the creation, by the school, of it’s own development plan.
Generally, it is for each school to determine what a beautiful school is. For some it is just having fresh water and toilets. For others it is having classrooms that keep out the winter rain or summer sun. In some cases, the emphasis is on academic achievement. Each school is different, as is each community different. Ultimately, a beautiful school is one that starts on time and ends on time. It is also one that uses the entire school calendar for the development of education. It should therefore focus on and develop control of the school environment, and put in place rigorous curriculum and instructional practices. In order to do this schools should support change that will create and sustain a supportive environment for learning and teaching.
Four broad areas that, combined together, can be seen as the totality of the school and a beautiful should strive to improve, through ti’s own effort, all four of these arias:
- The Learning and Teaching Area – development of safe, orderly, disciplined schools.
- The Art of Relationship – development of relationships between teachers and learners.
- The Area of Vitality – development of interaction between school and community.
- The Areas of Environment – physical development of the school.
Having assessed their own situation, either through themselves or with the aid of the Department of Education and circuit manager, the participant school is invited to submit the plan to the local independent service provider or circuit manager for submission to NOVALIS UBUNTU. The application , together with the affirmation from the district manager as the existing state of the school will ensure entry into the campaign.
